Find Pamunkey Regional Jail Releases

To find someone released from Pamunkey Regional Jail, begin with the system that held the person and then confirm what ended that custody. The Caroline County release route differs from a state prison discharge, an immigration transfer, or a handoff to another jail. Pamunkey Regional Jail publishes current custody, while a past departure may require a release record, a notification entry, or a court disposition. A careful Pamunkey Regional Jail release search distinguishes a true community release from a transfer and gives families a sound way to verify what happened.

Pamunkey Release Routes

Pamunkey Regional Jail is the adult local and regional jail that matters for Caroline County arrests and local sentences. The Pamunkey Regional Jail Authority operates it independently of the Caroline County Sheriff. Its member jurisdictions are Caroline County, Hanover County, and the Town of Ashland, and it also houses people for Goochland, New Kent, and Powhatan. A roster card may name the Caroline Sheriff’s Office as the arresting agency even though Pamunkey is the physical custodian. That difference matters when asking who holds the release record.

A departure can follow several paths. Bond, recognizance, time served, completion of a local sentence, or a court order may lead into the community. A person may instead be turned over to VADOC, picked up by another jail, delivered on a warrant, or transferred because of a detainer. A detainer is a request from another authority to hold or receive the person. Those handoffs end Pamunkey custody but are not community release. The booking-and-release record is the best local document for the actual departure and any receiving authority recorded by the jail.

Confirm a Pamunkey Release

The official Who’s In Jail roster answers a present-tense question. It displays current inmate cards with a name, inmate ID, booking details, arresting agency, charges, court date, a bond-looking value, and a booking image. It is not a recent-release list. No official release-date field, archive, 24-hour view, 72-hour view, post-release retention rule, or refresh schedule was found as of the research date. An absent card is therefore a clue to continue, not proof that the person went home.

Use the custody chain in order. Each source answers a different part of the question, and matching the person by more than a name reduces errors.

  1. Search the current Pamunkey roster. If the person appears, the roster reports jail custody rather than release.
  2. Call Booking/Release and ask whether custody continues. If it ended, ask what public release or transfer facts can be confirmed.
  3. Search Virginia Jail VINE for the person, reporting agency, custody status, and event date. Treat the result as a lead.
  4. Check the Caroline court case for the order or disposition that may explain the jail’s action.
  5. If a state transfer is possible, search VADOC. Request the Pamunkey booking-and-release record when the online trail cannot prove the event.

The full named-person process is also organized on the Caroline County released inmate search. A court order supplies legal authority, while the jail record proves the physical departure. VINE can provide notice, but Pamunkey remains the source for exact time and recorded release type.

Important: Removal from the current roster does not distinguish release, transfer, a detainer pickup, or a temporary data issue.

Pamunkey Release Records Contact

The official Pamunkey directory separates the immediate Booking/Release line from the Records function. Booking/Release is the practical first call for a current custody question or an operational release detail. Records handles existing booking-and-release documents and photographs. Public office hours apply to the facility generally; the research did not identify a separate walk-in records counter or separate records schedule.

Ask Booking/Release before traveling. No official source states a release exit, fixed release hours, weekend or holiday process, family waiting location, property pickup method, ride policy, or public transit connection. The directory’s Transportation extension concerns jail and court movements, not a ride home after release.

Request Pamunkey Release Proof

A narrow written request is useful for a past Caroline County booking. The Pamunkey FOIA page directs requests to the jail’s FOIA administrator. Identify the person, inmate or booking number if known, the booking and release date range, and Caroline County as the arresting or charging jurisdiction. Ask for existing records. Virginia FOIA does not require an office to compose a new explanation of why an event occurred.

Request the releasable booking-and-release record, actual release date and time, release code or type, receiving authority or destination if maintained, booking number, charges, bond information, and adult booking photograph. The jail has not published a fee schedule for these items. Virginia law permits reasonable actual costs, so ask for an estimate before work begins. A written request also preserves its scope and date.

Under Virginia Code § 2.2-3704, a public body normally responds within five working days by producing records, producing and withholding in part, citing a lawful withholding, reporting no responsive record, or using the allowed extension when response is not practical in that period. A response deadline is not a promise of full production without cost, redaction, or clarification.

Pamunkey Release Record Fields

The jail does not publish a field guide for its release record, so the items below form a request checklist rather than a promise that every field exists or is public. The goal is to link the right booking to the physical departure and identify whether Pamunkey released the person into the community or delivered the person elsewhere.

Requested fieldWhat it can establish
Booked name and booking numberConnects the record to the correct jail stay
Admitting or arresting agencyIdentifies the Caroline or other jurisdiction tied to intake
Booking and actual release timeDefines the period of Pamunkey custody
Release code or typeRecords bond, time served, court order, transfer, or another event if maintained
Receiving authority or destinationHelps separate community release from an agency handoff
Charges, bond, and courtConnects the jail event with the legal case

Virginia’s GS-08 retention schedule shows why an offline record may remain after a roster card disappears. Cumulative booking-and-release summaries have a 20-year retention period after separation, while individual incarceration files may be kept for three years after separation. Retention does not mean web publication, and it does not override an exemption or redaction.

Note: Ask for the existing release code and receiving authority rather than asking the jail to draw a legal conclusion.

Pamunkey Release Checks Beyond Roster

Virginia Jail VINE is the notification channel tied to participating local and regional jails. Search the specific person, compare the reporting agency and available identifiers, then read the custody status and event date exactly as transmitted. A released or out-of-custody entry is strong supporting evidence. It may still omit the precise legal reason, and a missing result proves nothing by itself. Pamunkey Booking/Release can confirm the current operational fact.

Caroline courts supply a separate part of the record. General District Court can show misdemeanor dispositions and preliminary felony proceedings. Circuit Court can show felony dispositions and sentencing. Bond orders, dismissals, time-served outcomes, and later probation entries may explain why jail custody changed, but they usually do not state the exact hour the jail completed discharge. For that fact, return to Pamunkey’s record.

Bond
Release from detention under court-set terms while a case may continue.
Time served
A sentence satisfied by time already spent in custody.
Transfer
A handoff to another correctional or government authority, not community freedom.
Discharge
The formal end of the relevant custody or sentence responsibility.

Pamunkey Release Search History

Caroline County’s obsolete local jail closed when Pamunkey Regional Jail opened on March 1, 1998. The county community facilities history helps identify the old arrangement. The regional authority model changed both the physical custodian and the place where a Caroline release inquiry starts. Current adult local-jail questions belong with Pamunkey even when the arrest came from Caroline County.

A second historical trap involves Peumansend Creek Regional Jail. The Caroline Board packet documents the later change in use. Its criminal-custody operation ended in 2017, and the site reopened in 2018 as the ICE-focused Caroline Detention Facility. It is not a second local adult booking jail. A request sent to the wrong institution can produce a no-record answer without resolving where the person actually went.

The 2025 PREA audit confirms Pamunkey’s present role with male and female pretrial detainees, local-sentenced people, and people awaiting VADOC transfer. That last category explains why a card can disappear and a VADOC record later appear. The event is a transfer until state records show a later parole or discharge.

About Pamunkey Custody Records

Pamunkey’s live roster is useful when read within its limits. It can establish that a matched person is reported in current custody and supply identifiers for the next inquiry. It cannot serve as a historical Caroline County release archive. The official site and app provide current inmate information, yet neither source claims a recent-release feature. Do not turn a display timestamp into an assumed update schedule.

For an older event, begin with the court record and a focused Pamunkey request. If the jail’s release record says VADOC turnover, move to the VADOC locator and state records. If it identifies another jail or agency, confirm with that custodian. This source-by-source method keeps a local release, a state transfer, and an outside pickup distinct.

Note: A Caroline arresting-agency label identifies the case origin, while Pamunkey remains the physical jail and release-record custodian.
