Virginia Jail VINE through VINELink is the relevant notification and custody-status route for a person booked into Pamunkey Regional Jail. Pamunkey is the adult regional jail used for Caroline arrests and local sentences. The service works from data sent by participating custodial agencies. It can help locate a specific custody record and register for events offered on that record.
VADOC state-prison events use a different service called NAAVI. The Virginia Department of Corrections states that NAAVI is not connected to local-jail VINE. Federal Bureau of Prisons and ICE custody also use separate locators. The systems should never be treated as one broad database, even if the same person moves among them.

Search Caroline County VINELink Records
Begin with the exact legal name and any known booking or offender identifier. A broad name result can contain several people, so the agency and record details matter. Use the Virginia custody-record search and open only the record whose identifiers fit the Pamunkey booking.

- Compare the reporting agency, age or date of birth, and record number to distinguish matches. Do not select a record based only on a similar name.
- Open the correct record and read the agency, custody status, event label, and event date exactly as displayed.
- Save the details needed to confirm the event with Pamunkey, especially the name, record number, event, and date.

Caroline VINELink Release Fields
A local-jail result may show a released or out-of-custody status or an event and date, depending on what the reporting agency sends. Do not promise a universal set of fields. The result may identify the agency and record well enough to support a direct call, but it may not state the legal reason or exact physical release time.

A release event does not necessarily explain bond, recognizance, time served, dismissal, sentence completion, transfer, or detainer. Those terms have different legal effects. Register Caroline County Release Alerts
Register from the correct individual record, not from a general search result. Delivery methods can vary with the live Virginia interface and event. Choose only a channel and event that the system actually offers, then complete its confirmation process.
- Select “Get notified,” “Register,” or the current equivalent on the matched record.

Confirm Caroline County VINELink Events
VINE is notification and status infrastructure, not Pamunkey’s certified release ledger. Data can lag. An event may omit the release reason and may describe movement away from one jail rather than release from all custody. Call Pamunkey at 804-365-6400 and use Booking/Release extension 3043 for current public confirmation. Records at extension 3033 handles the existing booking-and-release record.
No-result rule: No match can reflect spelling, an alias, a bad identifier, transfer, another custody system, feed delay, nonparticipation, or an older record outside the interface. It does not prove release.
For a local event, reconcile VINELink with the Pamunkey record and the applicable Caroline court. A bond order authorizes release but does not prove that jail processing ended. A court disposition may explain why detention should end, while the jail record identifies the physical departure. If the record states a transfer, follow the receiving authority.
Federal BOP and ICE events are outside Virginia Jail VINE. BOP can show “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody,” but those labels end only BOP custody. ICE’s locator is custody-oriented and not a permanent history. A miss in either system may reflect another authority or a transfer rather than community release.
For older Pamunkey events, move from a live notification search to records and court files. The jail’s cumulative booking-and-release summaries have a longer retention schedule than a public roster card, while individual incarceration files follow a shorter schedule. Retention does not guarantee public web access or disclosure of every field. It does mean that a focused request can remain useful after the live interface no longer finds the person.
Caroline Transfer Notification Gap
A transfer from Pamunkey to VADOC creates a special Caroline County notification problem. Local events use Virginia Jail VINE. State prison events use NAAVI. The two services are not connected, so the local registration does not automatically follow the person into state custody.
After a documented VADOC transfer, locate the relevant state record and register separately in NAAVI. It can provide an advanced release notice, a changed anticipated date, a completed VADOC release-date notice, transfer, parole interview or decision, work-release, and specified escape or abscond events. Availability depends on the relevant record and live options.
An advanced release notice refers to an anticipated date, generally sent ahead and updated if the date changes. It is not proof that the person left custody. A completed release-date notice means VADOC custody ended, but it does not by itself prove that all supervision ended or that no other authority has a hold.
When a state event changes, keep the old notice and the updated one. The sequence can show that a date was revised without misrepresenting the first alert as a completed release. The signed VADOC release papers or a direct state record remain stronger proof of the physical event.

Read Caroline Release Alerts Narrowly
Each alert proves only what its source reports. A Pamunkey event concerns local-jail custody. A VADOC release-date event concerns VADOC custody. Neither automatically establishes final discharge from probation or parole, the absence of a detainer, or completion of a pending Caroline case.

For a Caroline court case, a bond order, disposition, or sentence can supply the legal context that VINE lacks. Yet the order and the alert answer different questions. The court explains authority; the custodial record confirms when the agency carried it out.
